2012 is not as great as 2011…well, that’s just me. But it is still an awesome year for books. There are definitely cool titles I’ve read this year that warrants recognition so I decided to award them in their well deserving categories. Check ‘em out:
Best Book of 2012!
It’s not even a full pledge book, but I still gave this award to DESTROY ME by Tahereh Mafi. This book is just too darn good for me. I love it. This one of the two books this year that I have read over and over again. I know how Warner felt when he got Juliette’s journal. I think I treated this novella the same way.
Hot of the Press (Best Debut Novel!)
I’ll give this award to Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I think my review says it all. Also and I’m quite not tired to tell you that one of the huge reasons why I liked—no, love this book is because of Chaol!
Next in Line (Best Sequel!)
Since this is the last book, I’m giving it to Foretold by Jana Oliver (Endure was too close but Foretold’s ending was more define than Endure). The way she wrapped Beck and Riley’s story was bittersweet. I love how positive it was.
Eye Candy (Best Book Cover!)
I still think the best cover every grace my bookshelf (physical or virtual) is Forsaken by Lisa Ms. Stasse! Just look at it, so unique, and the illustration was well depicted.
Shippers’ Award (Best Book Couple!)
Because of this book, I changed my original shipping and that rarely happens to me so I’m giving the Shipper’s Award to Christian and Clara from the Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand. You can read my pre-review of Boundless here and my comments below why I love these two to bits!
Avant-Garde (Best Self-Pub Book!)
I have read several indie books this year and I must say the authors from this side of the biz squish every human emotion possible in every virtual page of their book, and they don’t hold back and that’s what I love the most about it. I’m giving this category to Katie Ashley’s The Proposition because it just way too awesome and totally deserved the award.
Cool Make-Over (Best Retelling Book)
Ah, this category is simple, not even an ounce of doubt: Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin. I haven’t read the one written by Edgar Allen Poe but I’m pretty sure she had given it justice with unique paranormal twist! Two words. Love. It.
Tear Jerker (Best Contemporary Book)
I have read so many contemporary book this year from mainstream to self-pub but the most soulful book I‘ve read is Slammed by Colleen Hoover. That book as I said in my review is beautiful.
3012 Award (Best Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic Book)
Having read the sequel a little earlier than expected I’m giving this award to Under the Never Sky (and its sequel Through the Ever Night) by Veronica Rossi. Well, the book was just so good and the characters are just awesome for words. What else is there to say?
Trailblazers (Best Book Hero/Heroine)
I’m giving it to Riley Blackthorn (from The Demon Trapper’s Daughter) for her courageous journey to the end. And [Aaron] Warner (from Shatter Me) for the emotional roller-coaster ride that is his novella, Destroy Me.
And that’s it. Wow, I realized that my post started and ended with Warner. Well, I love the guy…too much that I think it is bordering obsession, LOL . j/k
I’m excited for another year of awesome books in 2013. More new book obsession to come! Saw many intriguing books that now on my radar. Hope they’re good as their blurbs say. And on my Reading Challenge, I am 30 less books than my previous goal of 200 last year, I’m still pretty happy that I have exceeded my goal of 150 this year (with 20+ books in excess, still awesome, right?)
