More shoujo stuff are coming…

7 years ago | filed under Graphic Novels
I have shoujo series that I’m quite invested these days. One of these is Hirunaka no Ryuusei. I absolutely adore this one. I just tried it without so many expectations. I have this thing called downtime where I want something nice, fluff to read/watch. Since shoujo manga is not that widely animated (at least the ones I like aren’t animated…yet!) like it does to shounen, I always cling to mangas to satiate this thirst for romance! And oh boy, do I get. I get! Ok, so maybe there are lots shoujo manga tropes here: attractive teacher, first heartbreak, new love,

Tokyo Ghoul Ep. 4: where…

7 years ago | filed under Anime, Graphic Novels
If I watched Tokyo Ghoul episode 4 without any knowledge of the manga, I would have been probably still gleeful like I was when I watched the first episode of the anime. It has the spunk so to speak. But having read the manga and saw how fast-paced and different the order of events and of course the alteration of some details, one is to worry for succeeding episodes. It means that it’s likely to move this way for the rest. I’m disappointed, there I said it. I was really anxious when Tsukiyama graced his presence far too early. I

Let me talk about Haikyuu! by Haruichi Furudate and why this series is an awesome sports manga. I have fair share of fun with sports animanga like Slam Dunk, Eyeshield 21 and Prince of Tennis. I did like Kuroku no Basket so I might as well included this one. But I wasn’t prepared for the awesomeness that is Haikyuu! and the adorable, I’m-so-rooting-this-guy protagonist, Hinata Shouyo. I remember asking my sister which series should I start (choices between Kurobasu and Haikyuu) and she was possessive with KnB she said I should start Haikyuu! I didn’t listen to her because I’m

Now that I have finally caught up with shounen series I’m following (with exception of One Piece, I’m still on Punk Hazard arc but I did caught with the anime. Freaking Bartolomeo stole my heart! He embodies the entire One Piece fandom!). I decided to read some shoujo manga on the side. It all strated when I finishing catching up with Ao Haru Ride (and I’m freaking scared because something is about to happen to my ship, but I’ll rant when the time comes). So I decided to check some popular mangas. And I did find some entertaining ones. (Hmm,

I have bunch of anime I wanted to watch that currently still ongoing. But curiosity once again got the better of me and decided to check the first episodes (just so I know if the waiting is actually warranted) of these shows. So far, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun and Ao Haru Ride piqued my interest from the get-go. But I decided to read Ao Haru Ride because of the positive vibe the first episode gave me. It turns out I hated the male lead. The worst thing could ever happen when I read shoujo manga. At least in Last Game I

I’m going to devour Tokyo…

7 years ago | filed under Anime, Graphic Novels
I’ve been eyeing Tokyo Ghoul (東京喰種-トーキョーグール-) ever since I saw the summer anime list. There’s something about that creepy mask that spoke to me (ok, that sounds really, well, creepy *chuckles*). Everyone has been raving about it and here I was fidgeting in the corner because I’m afraid to start a series that my gut feeling is telling that I will love it but stopping herself for the reason that she’ll end up frustrated because she needs to wait weekly. Well, I caved in and everything that in my mind was right. I love it! And I’m frustrated because I have

So Shingeki no Kyojin Chapter…

7 years ago | filed under Graphic Novels
Ah, I’m so relieved when I read the latest chapter of Shingeki no Kyojin. I already had this nagging feeling that he’s going to be ok, and he’s not going to die. I don’t think Isayama is that harsh (despite the countless deaths that already occurred in the series. I mean, I'm still heartbroken over the former Levi Squad.), besides, he’s too freaking, not popular per se, but kinda important that I have this gut feeling that he prepared something 'special' for him in the future. Ok, I’m now under the cut, so I might as well name him, so

I was looking for new anime to watch (I’m not starting any anime from the summer list yet, even though I’m so excited to watch Tokyo Ghoul!!!). I stumbled across this series Kamigami no Asobi 「神々の悪戯, Mischief of the Gods」. It’s an otome game turned anime…I think. I wanted to watch a fluffy series after the intense series catch up I’m doing right now. And for the first time ever I recognized Kamiya Hiroshi’s voice (I didn’t in Haikyuu! I’m so delighted with this little accomplishment). And it looks like it’s not only Kamiya-san, gaaah, it’s a powerhouse cast!!!! Daisuke

I finally caught up with Hunter X Hunter. Ok, I just watched post Greed Island aka Chimera Arc. I have few pending anime that I’m also trying to catch up (such as FMA: Brotherhood—I know, it ended quite a while now, but, but, but!!! I still fail to watch the entire thing, plus the manga, I need to finish it! Nurarihyon no Mago, then maybe, just maybe Bleach? But I did finally finished Ao no Exorcist. I’m little disappointed with the anime. FILLER!!!! Anyway, there’s no use crying over filler episodes spilled milk. As I was saying, Hunter X Hunter.

Heart Beats: Prince, Games and…

7 years ago | filed under Anime, Graphic Novels
I’m not really the biggest shoujo fan. I know, it’s weird because when it comes to books, I always crave for romance but when it comes to anime/manga, I want the action type. I do ship couples in shounen manga. In fact I am more heavily invested with the couple in this genre. The scarcity of the romance makes it more fun to me. I know how masochistic can I be. But when it happens, it become more than what it was, dissecting the fine details, therefore every moment matters as opposed to dime a dozen moments. But let’s go

If you didn’t know…yet, I’m a huge fan of Amano Akira’s Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Like massively obsess with the series when it was still running. It’s my all-time favorite series. I heard that she did the character design for this series. I was quite surprised when I decided to look around and saw the characters. It is indeed made by her. The characters particularly the main ones were heavily resembled her older & debut work. Not to say I’m complaining. Kougami is basically Yamamoto and fucking Hibari Kyoya combined. Two of my favorite guys in one body as if they

1001 Nights? Nope it’s Magi!

7 years ago | filed under Anime, Graphic Novels
It was only in college when I finally  appreciated Arabian Nights, like I said many times over my book blog, I’m not too fond of reading before…ok, maybe literature in general. But during our World History class and my professor had us watched a movie about it did I realize how amazing and powerful the story was. Oh yeah, this post is about Magi: The Labyrinth of Magi 「マギ」. It’s safe to say without me verifying that this series is heavily inspired by it. From the characters names: Aladdin, Alibaba, Sinbad, it’s very apparent don’t you think? But, But! This

Getting back to your old…

7 years ago | filed under Anime, Graphic Novels
When I watched Shingeki no Kyojin, the otaku me was still half asleep. While I massively spazzed over Levi, Eren and the others, I wasn’t completely awake to go back around watching and reading old series. But with the help of the couple of new ones, I have the strong desire to revisit old favorites. And you know what, it turns out they are favorites for a reason. So Kishimoto was doing something so nice for the naruhina shippers (and I’m included in this bunch). I just watched to see the fuss around the then newest episode. Oh my gosh,

One of my favorite animation studios is BONES and one of my recent favorite seiyuus is 神谷 浩史, (Kamiya Hiroshi). So together in one project, of course my curiosity was piqued. Noragami 「ノラガミ」 has the same vibe like those supernatural series I watched before. Honestly the first 2 or 3 episodes didn’t leave a great deal of impact on me (although this running joke about his sweaty palms and his unorthodox fashion sense cracked me up). I felt sorry for this minor god, Yato (the protagonist) and how he clinged to his bottle full of coins. His dream is to

The basketball which kuroko plays.

My sister LOVES Kuroko no Basuke 「黒子のバスケ」. So much she is so selfish when it comes to it. She forbids me to watch it for the reason that I will not like it and I will make fun of it. I watched it…behind her back and I felt so happy about it. But she’s right I didn’t love it as much as she did. There were episodes that I fast-forwarded the scenes. And just like she predicted I ended up comparing it to Slam Dunk. I’m saying this without ill intention but I still think that Slam Dunk was still

It’s not like it’s my very first time to watch Gintama 「銀魂」 prior to my ‘awakening’ so to speak. I did watched it before, even laughed at the silliness and confused over the little plot (or the lack of thereof). But I think I needed to right to reintroduce to this amazingness that is Sorachi’s work. My sister labeled me as the tsukomi whenever she was watching Gintama and me accompanying because of my lack of better thing to do. Ok, so I admit it was silly and completely hilarious, yet the few episodes I did watch didn’t speak to

I think I already confessed here that one of my many alter egos was slumbering for a long time. Until decided to watch an anime series people have been raving about: Shingeki no Kyojin  (Attack on Titan, 進撃の巨人) by Isayama Hajime (諫山 創). It was the most popular anime in 2013. And the manga toppled the reigning pirate king, One Piece by Eiichiro Oda from its seat in Oricon. Even though I’ve been hearing about how awesome it was, I still put watching it on-hold. Months had passed, I still ignored the calling. I’m not huge otaku anymore, I kinda

So no Hot of the Press this week, well…I didn’t read anything this week so there’s nothing to report. I’m little withdrawn from reading (at least book wise, I’m still reading tons of manga this week as well). So here’s Week 23: In a Nutshell (full version)! Otaku mode is still on full gear. [caption id="attachment_8136" align="aligncenter" width="500"] If it's only possible to hug Gin this fiercely! I will![/caption] I’m still binge reading Gintama while simultaneously watching the anime. Also started a new series called Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and I really liked it so far. It’s cutesy for

The sleeping ‘titan’ has awakened.

I think a post is warranted. It’s day 2 of not reading anything. I hadn’t touched a book in exactly 48 hours, which for me is really amazing surprising feat because ever since I’ve became this huge bookworm, my e-reader had never left my side. It’s always there with me whenever I wanted to read. While there was always a day that I couldn’t finish a book but I always read: be it pages, chapters, even just a paragraph. Bottom-line, I always read. Then this happened: I watched Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人Shingeki no Kyojin) Eren was so pissed. But I'm

Remember this post. Here's another one but this time it’s manga time to shine. I’m going to highlight this part of the shelves. So you know, I love manga! I love art and I love awesome stories. I was a huge fan before, still am but wavered a little. I only read titles that I really, really love (like Skip Beat and D Gray Man). You can check out my Animelist for the titles/shows I know. Last time I was too excited I forgot to read the instruction, so here is the how: Put the number of books on your

みなさん、こんにちは! Do you like manga? Check out my recommendation here: Hi, welcome to Oh Genki! a regular feature here at Aeropapers. Aside from reading western books, I also happen to be a big manga (& anime) fan. Manga (コミック) is a Japanese word for comics. There are thousands of manga out there in every genre. So here I’m putting some spotlight to those that are worth plugging. This is going to be a little different from the previous format I posted before. I decided that it is much better if I gave a little bit of my opinion about it,
