Fiction / those rare instances that I switched from one ship to another~!

Alright, another shipping topic for y’all! But let’s do something grimmer LMAO nah, but it isn’t positive like my other posts are! So I’m gonna talk about abandoned ships, you know those couple or ships that we rooted so hard but kinda feel meh as the story continues or you find yourself switching to another love interest that made you abandoned the said ships? Have you? Have I? *ponders* I think I had!!

While writing this blog post I racked my brains off if I found myself abandoning my original ship then switched sides…but it’s very, very rare! I’m usually (key word: usually) stick to my choices ‘til it end! Like I said these things plenty “I ship hard! I will go down with this ship” etc.; besides, I’m not really into grand gesture, subtlety is thy name of the game for me. So for me to abandon ship something BIG needs to happen—like eureka moment that made me go “ah, this made more sense!” those moments!

So true to my shipping philosophy, story really what defines my ship! It’s the story that will convince me to ship or in this case let it go and ship another one!

OK, let me give an example! One of my favorite young adult books ever is Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly. I originally ship Clara and Tucker from the start! I found Christian meh…well, in my defense he wasn’t really in book one apart from being part of Clara’s purpose. He was there but he wasn’t actively part of the story—yet. Then entered second book, Hallowed! I did what I never imagined I would! I abandoned ship! I went from Tucker my golden rancher boy to my angelic speckled boy Christian. This time he was active, he was there and all those moments with Clara tugged away from my then Clara-Tucker shipper. It was like my heart was beating for the dude! I shipped ‘em! Up until the end (which shattered my heart into tiny pieces!! Why Ms. Hand? Why?! ) I shipped these two! I fought for these two to be together! But sadly that rare occasion where I switched sides and abandoned my original ship wasn’t fruitful! Oh well!

So true to my shipping philosophy, story really what defines my ship! It’s the story that will convince me to ship or in this case let it go and ship another one! While I will say that this rarely happens it just show everything is possible! Sometimes you will find yourself reevaluating your shipping decisions and based what’s currently happening, that may or may not want you to give it up. Because it doesn’t make sense to you anymore, and you see something better! Yeah, that’s usually happen when I do abandon my original ship!
