You know how huge of an advocate I am with supporting your fave mangaka and fave manga? Yes? If you love it go and buy it; I know internationally there’s gray area we all playing around *coughs* fan translation *coughs* but when it comes to the heart of the matter, support is necessary even if you simply think of it as a form of appreciation to wonderful story you have read!
But I will let you into a secret of mine, while support is there another reason why I love buying manga is getting those *drum roll please* OMAKE! So 御負け or おまけ are extras! And I love reading all those extras! Whether it’s a 4-koma, character profile, or the author’s comment I love reading those tiny bits of brand new information that I didn’t get to read during its magazine release. I remember an omake in ブラックバード (Black Bird; one of my all-time favorite shoujo manga hands down!) that 桜小路先生 (Sakurakoji-sensei) insisted that no one reads the “author notes” (proven by her friend, it was a funny anecdote btw) but sensei I do! I love reading mangaka’s thought process (but I’m saving this another topic for yet another day!) So for me that’s already a good incentive to buy the manga (like I said from the primary reason is obviously to support our faves, don’t forget!).
I really adore the omake in 東京喰種 (トーキョーグール):re (Tokyo Ghoul:re): one of favorite omake (for now of all-time) was 4-koma with Arima-san looking for Haise. It was hilarious when I first read it. And it never fail to put a smile on my face (the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul:re is still my favorite) whenever I re-read it. There are other omake in this volume as well and all of them are A+ entertainment. That’s why when it came out I was eager to get my copy (although that didn’t happen and I waited for volume two to get release then I bought them both). The omake in Tokyo Ghoul:re in general are pretty entertaining! Sometimes even the author, 石田先生 (Ishida-sensei) put some anecdotes in there! It’s nice to know him even for a bit (and we all know the Gobaru-san is his fave assistant if one of the omake is an indication LMAO).
ハイキュー!! (Haikyuu!!) has cute omake too mostly sensei’s rough sketches with added comedy stints from our great ensemble cast. There are tons to choose from but my favorite will always be about Hinata and Kageyama (because they are my unicellular idiots—my dynamic duo). The one with Hinata’s random English outburst (which Kageyama went all what with the dialogue LOL). And that silly thought when Kageyama was practicing his setting in the summer camp (which might’ve indicated Kag’s thought of Hinata as someone not on the bright side as seen in the omake.
I could enumerate all my favorite omake but seriously if you can’t add another reason to buy the manga might as well consider this extra or omake as added ‘oomph’ to that support because let’s face it support is a must to keep the gears going in this biz; they also making it all worth it and appealing by adding those extras as additional entertainment value! So yeah! Omake FTW!
