Summary: Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.
When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.
As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself.
Review: I didn’t expect a lot from Never Fade to be totally honest. I mean, I did like the first book, The Darkest Mind, but I wasn’t captivated like the others. So I was so surprised that Never Fade had me completely compelled. It was really engaging from start to finish. I can’t take my eyes off of the pages even for just a few minutes because every freaking pages just mesmerizing. So if you’re a fan of the first you will definitely like—no, love this book. Look at me, I’m not a huge fan and now I’m absolutely raving about it.
It’s really something if you think that little details can weigh so much in an event. And that is what I think what happened with the story. Ruby is on a mission to retrieve a flash drive that may contain their future. As if fate was playing with them, the flash drive they were looking for was at the hands of the guy that she knew very well, they guy she loved—Liam. Liam accidentally got the flash drive because he took Cole’s jacket. Now they need to reclaim it. But is she ready to meet him again? Is the mission as easy as it sounds? And what’s really inside of the flash drive that they need it badly?
You see there are lots of questions and as good person I’ll bear you the good news: those questions had been answered so better prepared because you are in for ride. And I love every freaking minute of it I tell you. Like I said, it was so strange how the smallest of details can affect and even alter the result. I mean, all Liam did was took Cole’s jacket and that action changed things that were supposed to happen.
What I also liked about it that even in the beginning it already reeled me in. The cliffhanger from the first book is what had motivated me to pick up the sequel. Little did I know that Ms. Bracken had prepared an action-packed story that will glue her readers entirely. So I’m really glad that I picked this one up, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t meet Cole. Oh Cole, you had me from the get-go. I was complaining before that I didn’t like Liam but I’m happy that I’m rewarded with a new guy that really appeal to me. The fact that Liam and Cole were related made it super interesting. I wanted to see more of him in the next book.
Even though I might have professed my new found love for Cole, I actually felt more connected with Liam. I can feel his struggles particularly the part where he and Ruby meet again. I can feel his internal conflicts when he saw her. And how weird it was to know someone but can’t recall anything about her. He cannot remember her but his feelings told him otherwise. And it was really confusing him. He was struggling about it and each of these emotions he have had dripped on every word he said to Ruby. Man, the feels this guy has was so strong that I want to hug him and calm him down.
And the ending? Sweet baby pandas that is the most exciting as well as the most infuriating ending. It ended in a cliffhanger (again) and the reveals were super unexpected and jaw dropping. So bring forth book three because I’m ready when you are.

Preview Quote: “I feel like…I feel like I’m losing my damn mind, like your face has been carved into my heart, and I don’t remember when, and I don’t understand why, but the scar is there, and I can’t get it to heal. It won’t go. I can’t make it fade. And you won’t even look at me.” — Liam (from Uncorrected Digital Galley)
